Eurojust

Sometimes I go with my boyfriend to The Hague where he works. Last week I went to deliver books at the NAI, nice that they also believe in my guide (and now I am going completely international; o) I have seen this building grow for some years and it was only now that I could admire it in full glory.

What is Eurojust?

It is a building of Eurojust and for this I am going to quote wikipedia, because it is not easy:

Eurojust is an agency of the European Union (EU) dealing with judicial co-operation in criminal matters among agencies of the member states. It is seated in The Hague, Netherlands. Established in 2002, it was created to improve handling of serious cross-border and organised crime by stimulating investigative and prosecutorial co-ordination.

The Hague

The building is part of the World Forum of The Hague. Due to its function, there are strict safety requirements and due to the designed dune landscape around it there is no insight. There are also ponds that form a natural barrier. It contains offices for around 400 employees. In the underground parking of more than 7000 m² there is room for 276 cars and 100 bicycles, there are also some electric charging points for electric vehicles.

Mecanoo

The design is by Mecanoo, an architectural firm from Delft, the Netherlands. The complex consists of a tower and a lower elongated volume. The windows are placed in different slopes, so that a different reflection and incidence of light is created. This placement also creates a depth in the facade. In 2005, Mecanoo, together with the landscape agency DS Landschapsarchitecten, designed the surrounding dune landscape.
