Frank O. Gehry

Frank O. Gehry is one of the “star architects”. In the world of architecture this is very contemptuous about the name star architect. Architecture may not be linked to names and other statements. I have a different opinion on this, since I was a fan of various architects and designers during my teenage years, like others of musicians and groups. I kept booklets with photos of the architects and their work. Frank O. Gehry was also included in the booklets. The closest work by him are the buildings in Düsseldorf.

Düsseldorf – MedienHafen

The port of Düsseldorf is located on the Rhine. It was very successful for decades, but customers were lost at the end of the 20th century. The buildings in the east of the port were given a different function. There are still cranes and dock edges that show the history of this area. About 700 companies came to this area and this area became “the place to be”. In addition to the offices, there are also restaurants and clubs.

Neuer Zollhof

Various architects were approached to revive this area (many star architects; o). Frank O. Gehry erected three towers here. All three consist of a concrete core, but the finish is different for each building. The middle one is clad with metal panels (very characteristic of Gerhy’s architecture, just think of Bilbao), the east tower, also the tallest, is clad and the west have a brick façade. By using the same windows, the buildings still have a connection with each other. All buildings are intended as an office.
