Braem library Schoten
A few months ago I wrote a blog post about the architecture of the Braem library in Schoten. In my book Architecture Antwerp I have also written a page about the Schoten library. It is one of my favorite buildings and was very happy that I was invited to the festive inauguration last Saturday. The restored library was opened together with Geert Bourgeois and mayor Maarten De Veuster. But that was just the beginning, because we’ll celebrate all week long.
Book
There is more … Honorary mayor Harrie Hendrickx and a few volunteers made a beautiful book about the library: “Braembibliotheek 1968 – 2017 – from sketch to restoration” with beautiful photos and nice texts. He also asked some people from Schoten to write a text about the library, Braem and / or books. Guillaume Van der Stighelen, Dimitri Leue, Merho and Tante Kaat, among others, wrote a piece for the book.
Column written by myself
To my great surprise, I was also asked, and that was very difficult for me, because I usually write about a building and the idea of the architect. But my own idea and experiences, that is something else. And then the portrait photo. I had to do acrobatics to stand on the stairs so that the bulbs were hanging behind me; o) Fortunately there are no pictures of that …
Festive week
It has become a wonderful book where you can occasionally browse through. It is for sale in the library for 10 euros, very little for such a beautiful book. You can also find all information about the festive week on the library website.
Schoten writes
The end of the festive week will take place on Friday, November 24, a nocturnal. There is music, comedy, graphic art, food trucks and a small book fair. The authors living in Schoten are allowed to present their work … So you will also find me there from 8 pm and you can also buy my book there. Maybe see you then …
